The relatively smooth surface prevents clogging of the filter. 
Its operation is thus ensured for several years. 
The substrate is not harmful to free plankton floating in the water.
In case of low colonization, it takes about 14 days.
Trickling filters and newly equipped biofilters to become biologically active. Trickle filters and biofilters can only assume a full charge after 2-3 months. The commissioning time of the filter can be considerably reduced if BAKTOPLAN FRESH WATER or BAKTOPLAN MARINE is used.
